Shifting Curtain

studioea was contracted to design this fabric by the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. The curtains would be closed at day- and nighttime at their new auditorium.

The curtain changes color and pattern during the day due to the lightWhen light shines on the textile, the curtain is white showing a 3D pattern. When light shines through the textile, a warm yellow color and graphic pattern appears. This makes that during the day the building shows a white, 3D textured facade, which changes to a warm and yellow glow as the evening sets in and lamps turn on. What we see is never a fixed situation, but one that will always offer new surprises.
